The Targa Florio, one of the world’s longest lasting and most iconic motor races, will arrive in Australia this November as the Targa Florio Australian Tribute, and we’re invited to take part.
The Targa Florio was a brutally tough endurance sports car race that began in Sicily in 1906. It became a part of the World Sportscar Championship in the ’50s, but was removed from the championship in 1973 after a serious of fatal accidents proved that it had become far too dangerous.
Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2016, the event still exists today as a regulated road race with special timed stages. It features a classic event, the Targa Florio Classic, which is a brilliant event run as a historic regularity race for cars built before 1977.
The Targa Florio Australian Tribute is a classic car regularity event that will be held from the 29th of November to the 3rd of December, 2017. It will cover a 1175 kilometre route through some of Victoria’s most scenic locations, including both regional and city destinations, and give spectators a chance to enjoy the cars and festivities. It will be run in the same way as the Targa Florio in Sicily, as a regulated road race with timed stages.
