Ex-RAAF Fighter Pilot Brian Weston to Speak at September 20th Social Night

Monday, August 21st, 2017

Brian Weston will be joining us to speak during our fourth social evening of 2017, which will be held at the usual venue, Denistone Sports Club, 59 Chatham Road in West Ryde starting at 7:30PM on Wednesday the 20th of September. As always, come along a little earlier to enjoy the bistro and a drink with friends.

Most members will be familiar with Brian Weston and his BRG Group Sb Midget that he has been racing for nearly the past 20 years. But what you may not know is that Brian has an even longer history of travelling quickly.

Brian Weston joined the RAAF at 17 years of age with a dream of flying the Australia’s air force jets. After 34 years, he retired having flown Winjeel, Chipmunk, Jet Provost, Hawker Hunter, Macchi MB-326H, Vampire, Avon Sabre, Mirage IIIO and F/A-18A Hornet aircraft.

His career included postings to all four RAAF fighter squadrons, including graduating from the RAAF fighter combat instructor course, and instructing on RAAF Mirage IIIO aircraft at the air force school for fighter pilots – No 2 (Fighter) Operational Conversion Unit. One of only a handful of RAAF pilots who flew tours in three generations of RAAF fighter aircraft – the Avon Sabre, Mirage IIIO and F/A-18A Hornet – he is well-placed to talk about his experiences flying fighters, especially flying the Mirage IIIO on which he accrued 2,400 flying hours.

As usual, Brian’s story will begin at 7:30 at the Denistone Sports Club but members are welcome to arrive earlier for some food, drink and socialising.

Finally, you still have a couple of days for a last-minute entry for our 2-3 September Wakefield Park event; entries close 18 August.
